Some experienced GT Fishermen like to raise their own hardle.

Shore GT Fishing - This is one form of art not everyone is equipped to succeed.

Well known Fisherman from Japan came to Maldives after many years and tried Shore GT Fishing, just a few minutes walk from the guesthouse he and his pals were staying.

In Maldives, there are many resorts - one island one resort.  All have strict regulations - Absolutely No Fishing Allowed at the Island.

Today, there are a number of cheaper guesthouses are available in local residential islands.  Most of those resident islands have no such regulations and you are free to go fishing at your own risk.  Compared to Offshore Boat Fishing with lack of mobility from point to next, Shore GT Fishing is definitely disadvantageous and less probably - that makes Shore Fishing very dramatic if you score one like this!!

Especially remote atolls such as Gaafu Dhaalu/ Alif Atolls, I do not think anyone has ever tried till just last week...

Well Photos speak more than million words!

We have extensive list of guesthouses we can arrange booking.  So who will catch next monster GTs from the Shore?!

Just back from 3rd Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Expedition.  Boat is staying for a month there to serve other customers also.

Napoleon Fish - this is the topic of today. Last September, our Captain Mohamed got over 50kg Napoleon Fish.  This time, I had 4 Napoleon Fishes for 4 days straight including 58kg, 55kg, and 35kg x 2.  Last week, our friends from Thailand also caught Napoleon again.  Woops, I almost forgot that I also got my first Napoleon Fish in July expedition in Gaafu Dhaalu.

Appearantly Gaafu Dhaalu and Gaafu Alif Atolls have rich stocks of Napoleon Fishes.  Napoleons are known and popular among divers for their friendly nature while they are predators to many smaller bait fishes that is why they break the ocean surface to attack gigantic topwater lures.  When I saw Napoleon for the  first time when snorkeling, it was hard imagin such predator natures from its cute/funny looking, slow swimming fish.

They are Protected Specie so that we take maximum care of Catch & Release.  It however is fun fish to fight especially those over 50kg that has a lot of power and even speed like GTs.  Those over 50s, I first thought would be GTs but when they appeared on surface near boat, it was green color giants instead of silver GTs.  Many of my GT fishermen friends with over 50kg or even 60kg records landed in the past, it is rarer to have this big Napoleons.  After posted Napoleons' photos in our facebook fan pages, I received a lot of inquiries.  Our services are to target GTs but we get a lot of other fishes like Red Snappers, Groupers, Sharks, Bluefin Trevallies, Yellowfin Tunas, and Napoleon in very occasional, or rather lottery kinds of chance.  Anyway, this very remote Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll (8 hours by boat, 1 hour by air) has a huge stock of untouched and challenged GTs and Napoleon Fishes.  It is expensive to go there as it consumes over 3000 litters of petro for round trip.  It is the reason that not many fishermen reached there thus well protected, unspoiled fishes and ecosystems remained.  So we are planning not to go there all the time but limit to only a few occasions for protecting the area.  However, if you really want to go, let us know.  We will think about it!

North Ari & Rasdhoo Atolls were the final destinations of this year's tour and first tour in the atolls.  However, due to this year's irregular weather into dry seasons with rough seas, we could not transport immedaitely to our friend's own Rasdhoo Atoll Guesthouse at night upon arrival from Japan by Sri Lanka Airline.  So we bunked in another friend's guesthouse in Hulehumale - airport island on the first night and transport to the Rasdhoo when ocean gets calm enough with Captain's judgement.

Fortunately very next morning, we could go to Rasdhoo and enjoyed 5 day fishing tour in Rasdhoo and North Ari Atolls.  Fishing by 2 Japanese experienced anglers were, to say the least, EXPLOSIVE!

They scored double over 50kg GTs, and lots of lots of over 40kg & 30kg!  Initially we were not so sure about Northern Ari Atoll because they are quite well fished area by fishing safari (Rashoo is a tiny atoll on the northern tip of Ari Atoll which maybe well kept since so small?!).  Lhaviyani Atoll fishing by Russian customers a couple weeks ago was not quite successful.  BUT, our worries turned out to be very turned up side down by explosive fishing in terms of both number and size.  It takes only 1 hour to reach Rasdhoo Guesthouse by speedboat from Airport which is about the same as some of remote North Male resorts.  Now we think it is a very good area not so far away to explore more!

Use of low budget but very new n' clean guesthouses for fishing package has been proven methods of wonderful fishing with budget in Maldives as well as proven that Maldives is NOT expensive country to go for wonderful fishing.

BAA Atoll - it was our very first time to have a speedboat tour in this atoll.  In fact, our customer chose the resort Dusit Thani because this was convenient location for us to service since our 6 day Russian Shop tour in Lhyavinani Atoll was until the last day and it was closer location for us to acces in tight schedule.  So we did not know what to expect.  Then it turned out that this couple started catching so many GTs without stop!  First day alone scored over 20 GTs.  As you see in pics below, this Japanese petite woman probably had record catch in our service history in terms of number and size of GTs among all female customers we served.  BAA Atoll seems not much fished by fishing safari as many go further north and remain very good conditions. Of course we cannot conclude out of just 2 days of fishing but definitely worth noting.

We have probably served around 10 newly wed couples on honeymoon to try their first GT fishing.  Amazingly no couple ended without catch though they are all very first time to try out.  Many of them start with casting lesson for the first half hour or so.  They typically come in packaged tour staying in resorts in North or South Male Atoll, pretty close from airport by speedboat transfer.  Husband, being able show off to his newly married wife with unseen giant fish must be quite an experience while she is so proud of him.  However, when wife happens to catch bigger GTs, would it indicate who will be in charge?!  In any case, Honeymooners always come with luck!

Mr. & Mrs. Onodera from Japan on November 20-21, 2012 in North Male Atoll; catching a beutiful gal and GT!!:
